As we come across books that we think you might be interested in reading, we will add them here with some descriptive information and how to order instructions.
Love & Duty By Ben and Anne Purcell - the incredible story of the lives of Ben Purcell who was a POW in Vietnam for 5 1/2 years, and that of his wife and family. Living in Clarkesville, and of the Purcell family which we recognize from our history in the LRWMA, this book is a MUST READ! I purchased it late one Friday afternoon, came home and read half of it before bed, and finished the rest as soon as I woke up in the morning.
God's Squad - by James Burnham - Gertrude Brown Collier's son-in-law spent a year in Vietnam as an army chaplain. He was with the 101st Airborn Division - the first of which were the "Band of Brothers" who trained at Curahee. His short stories of true experiences show a side of the war you won't find elsewhere!
Country At Heart - by Clayton Smith - 63 stories of Clayton's experiences in life as first printed in the Georgia Shopping News - doesn't matter if it isn't your family - he's the father/grandfather we all would love to have had - the stories are great!
Family Glue - by Evelyn Dunagan and Louise Brown - Stowe sisters - Evelyn's research into the family tree led her to document so much about so many families and the descriptions of life of 'our' ancestors are wonderful. Her documentation of Robert Brown's military record was read in the book by Larry Whitfield and that started the planning for Robert's Memorial Service on May 25, 2002.
Life Along the Middle Broad River - by Patti Evans-Shumate and Rebecca Bruce - this is the book of the FFFF organization - it is a historic community survey of the LRWMA area from prehistoric times through the government purchase. It also includes "Happenings" by Cora Brady Ledbetter.
Happenings - Stories of Cora Ledbetter! First published in the local news.
