Heritage Event
The First Annual
Heritage Event at Singsås
Starting about August 12, 2013
I have worked with hundreds of people who have their ancestral roots in Singsås and the surrounding communities of Storen, Haltdalen, and Soknedal and now we have the ability to organize an event where they can visit the area their ancestors remembered even till the day they died.
The Winsnes Fishing Lodge has become the premier location for those wishing to fish the wonderful Gaula River and would extend their season each summer to host those wanting to return to their homeland as long as people wish to participate. They have successfully modified the 1882 farmhouse Storstu'u Winsnes to become a top rate Bed & Breakfast for up to about 14 visitors at a time. They offer beautiful rooms, incredible meals, and frankly, the most wonderful of hosts!
The lodge is owned and operated by Anne Marit Winsnes-Hayes and her husband, Matt Hayes. Matt is an internationally known fisherman and first visited Storstu'u to film for the Discovery Channel. Matt not only fell in love with the fishing there, he fell in love with Anne Marit and together they now offer this incredible facility. In 2010, they opened a fantastic pub in one of the restored barns, another building for fishing supplies, and a fly casting pool!
The Winsnes Fishing Lodge offers their wonderful facility, and I arrange for your site visits
and local touring and together, we promise you a true personal heritage event.
Their hosting facilities, and my genealogical and area knowledge, combine to provide a very positive experience for descendants of the Singsås emigrants. They will accept reservations starting with August 12, 2012 and lasting as long as the demand for the facility keeps it financially reasonable to do so.

People wanting to participate would make their own travel arrangements so that they could include other areas and touring opportunities as fits their interests and time available. We can arrange for tours of Trondheim and Roros as part of their stay at Winsnes, but they might like to travel to Oslo or coastal areas prior to or after their stay at Singsås and we can certainly offer suggestions.
To give you ideas as to what can be included in a family visit to Norway and Singsås, look at the link that follows to show the images taken during our family visit in 2009. Bev and I took our 2 children and their families for a 2 week visit to Norway that began in Oslo, visited other family sites, traveled along the Atlantic Highway, and toured Trondheim before our time at the Winsnes Fishing Lodge. There are more photos than you need to see, but enough to give you an idea if you would wish to include some of the same sites on your Norway trip.
Our time at Singsås was June 7-13 so focus on those days,
however, prior to that we toured other parts of Norway
and you might consider doing the same and those photo
albums are also linked on that webpage.
Gail Kvernmo and Lorenchia Scott were there in 2005 and I have a few photos to share:
Local people came to help with their understanding of the area and their lineage.
There was some time for them to research using local documents.
People came to see them and tell of their connections!
Food prepared by Annbjorg is worthy of 5 star ratings as is the facility!
The house is a historic treasure as it was used as a fishing lodge in the late 1800's
by Jacob's ancestors.
And sunsets at the river are outstanding
