Hendricks Pioneer - Family Tree Article - January 2005
Did you know that teraserver.com has satellite images of everywhere - take a look at Hendricks!
Satellite photos of the town:
I do not know how familiar you are with the "West" Hendricks area, but I am sending you a map of where I grew up in perspective to the Oscar Winsness farm. In the center of aerial photo attached is the farm on which I grew up. On the western border of the photo are two farmsteads. If memory serves me correctly the further north farm is the Oscar Winsness farm. If you look a little further north and to the east on the photo is a farm across a road. That is my mothers home farm - Carl Oien was her father and Betsy was her mother. ...Dale Reed
If you compare the satellite image to the 1897 map, I think you see the same area in the middle of the 1897 plat!
Ken Kirkvold has provided us with images of a book that seems to have been written in Norway honoring the settlers of Hendricks. We will have to get this researched, but it seems to summarize the book "The Immigrant's Trek" and was printed probably in the 1930's. This document provided us photos of these settlers and the photos probably were taken in Norway before they left for America but that also has to be researched. Each emigrant is documented and photographed in this book and the images are on the website under the "Families" link and the appropriate family name. The following is the introduction and the page describing the church monument:
