Photo Album
In 1929, a 50th annivsary photo was taken in Hendricks. First will be shown the image so it fits your screen,
then you can download it in 2 much higher formats where you can see individual faces using your computer
imaging programs. The building in the rear center is still in existance in 2012. The location of the photo is the farm of
John Hanson Eggen and his wife Gjertrud, however, they died in 1920 and 1929 so the farm would have been operated
by one of their 15 children.

Photo of the dedication of the monument for the immigrants in front of the Singsaas Lutheran Church, Hendricks MN.
I bet the "Treckers" were those closest to the monument built in their honor!
In a book, Glimt I Ord Og Bilder, vol II, printed in Norway about the sor-Trondelag area, there was the following photo which led to an incredible realization!
Not understanding the language, I asked for help and got the following responses!
Dag Einar Winsnes provided this translation:
Four brothers and sisters photographed on the porch: Ingebrigt - Hans - Enge and Per Foros, Bjørgen, 1920. The house was built from a model of the family's house in Hendricks, Minnesota. Went also under that name at Bjørgen.
Then Jakob Winsnes from Singsaas provided the following:
The house is not there now. It was taken down in -87, so I remember it well. It was called “Hendricks”, and was located on the other side of river Gaula from the Singsås Church between Winsnes and the church.
Precisely who is in the photo came from Erik Bogen in Oslo - see below:

The other question we had as to which house in Hendricks this model was patterned after was answered by both Barb Engesmoe and Linda Pitzel as the house currently owned by Brenda Beus! Barb Engesmoe added "Leonard and Beulah Rottum and Art and Julia Hemum were earlier residents of the house.
We BELIEVE that Per Foros, who is in the photo the model house, visited Hendricks and is in the photo below taken at the Nils Winsnes farm. Nils Winsnes was actually from the family Foros in Norway (but much further back descended from a Vinsnes)
Ingebrigt Foros is on the right - named on photo as Per in error.
Who are the couples above? The house seems to be the one that the model in Singsaas was patterned after but in Singsaas it is reversed, and it has a porch!

Ron Lunde provided the following information about the names on the postcard:
Dear Jim and all others on the genealogy group:
The P. O. Fjeseth is undoubtedly Pete Fjeseth. He was the thrash master on my uncle Oscars Threshing run in the 40's and 50's when I used to help out on the thrashing run. A most interesting fellow, he had lived southeast of my uncles farm just across the section line. Actually, he and his wife only had one daughter who was named Bulah. She was married to Justin Anderson and they failed to have any children so there is no descendants from them. At the time Justin was doing the farming and I think Pete was retired.
Carl Trooien is likely one of the Trooien bachelors. He may have lived on the farm on the southwest side of the Black Slew, but I am not sure about that. Philip, Rollie, Trygve, or Roger Trooien may be able to give more information about that.
The picture is taken looking toward the northwest, the photographer more that likely standing just outside of the horse barn. I am told the larger horse barn was on the south end of the parking area, and there was also a smaller one on the north end of the parking area. They were apparently removed before my time because I have no personal memory of them. This information was told to me by my bother Wendell who lives in Watertown.
I hope you find this information of interest. I last saw Pete Fjeseth in Brookings when I was going to College. I believe that there are models of early farm machinery that Pete made that are at the Brookings county courthouse.
Sincerely, Ron Lunde
Lorenchia Scott found some additional information on Pete Fjeseth - another child etc:
Pete Fjeseth's wife's maiden name was Ingeborge Hanson. Pete and Ingeborge had two daughters, Clara and Beaulah Fjeseth Anderson. Justin and Beaulah were married and had one daughter who was a "blue baby" and never lived. Clara married and had children.
Pete Fjeseth was always full of fun and I have a picture of Pete and his cousin, Olai Ronning, outside the barn on the Fjeseth farm. Olai is standing on his head and Pete is having a good laugh. There are some old wide wooden skis leaning on the barn door.
Pete did many carvings. They used to be at the Hendricks Museum but I think that Beaulah had them moved to the Volga Museum (where the plow is) or as Ron stated, the Brookings County Courthouse.
